Well no big development on the job front. No interviews from anywhere I have applied to. No offers from anyone I have asked to help spread the word about my cause. BUT there are small developments.
Three people have stepped forward and offered suggestions on places I could look for a job, two have offered to put in a word for me, should I get far enough in the hiring process. I won’t spill names, but I will mention WHERE those leads are. First one was from a teammate I have on my soccer team. He works for a valet service based out of Toronto called Gatsby Valet. They aren’t officially hiring people but when they book large events, they allow their current employees to bring someone to help out. If they do well, a possible job offer can come of it. That is how he got the position. I have applied there as well, just so that if my name is brought up to come along, someone might remember seeing my resume and take notice.
Help number two came from a family friend. Her grandson works for a company called Highway Construction Inspection. He cannot officially help me, as he said he has had a few friends asking the same thing. Which is fine. A lead is better than nothing. He got the job through applying to one of their site offices, and then kept showing up everyday to see if they had any openings. Very persistent, and it paid off. I don’t know of any site offices right now, but that won’t stop me from applying.
The final lead and help came from my next-door neighbor. He is fairly high up the corporate ladder at CIBC, and has offered to personally pass my resume onto any department that is hiring that I wish to apply for. Having it hand delivered by someone with authority looks a whole lot better than being a faceless application through their online applicant service. That being said, I also applied online as well, in the hopes that if my name pops up twice, someone might take notice. The jobs at CIBC I applied for are varied, but all entry level. Really, if they are willing to hire me, I couldn’t care less what department I end up.
I have also been asked to create bridal shower invitations, conceptual sketches for table settings, and various other design elements for a friends upcoming wedding. Due to my graphic design background (which I will go into further detail in the next entry), I am offering up services for anyone interested. That being said, the design of this blog is very bland and there will be significant changes in upcoming weeks (looking into WordPress). Stay tuned please, hopefully good changes are coming, as there is a little bit of movement in a positive direction.
